Responsibilities: 

  • Develop a holistic and engaging curriculum for weekly 2-hour tutoring sessions geared towards high-achieving Sophomore, Junior and Senior high school students from low-resource backgrounds. 
  • Develop and implement a Critical Thinking, Writing, and Math test preparation curriculum that prepares students for the SAT and better prepares students for academic success. 
  • Create weekly session plans in partnership with volunteer instructors utilizing Kaplan and other provided materials. 
  • Ensure all students in the program (Three classes: Sophomore, Junior, Seniors of 4-6 students each, ~15 total) are given tools to improve their academic performance. 
  • Manage and oversee volunteer instructors and ensure they have the guidance they need to carry out weekly sessions.
  • Interview prospective instructors on an as-needed basis.


Time Commitment: 

  • 4-6 hrs/week total from September through May
  • 2 hours on Saturdays during session from 10-noon providing direct instruction to students 
  • 2-4 hours (flexible/ asynchronous) to prepare for session in partnership with other instructors 


Instructor Expectations:

  • A college graduate
  • Dedication and commitment to working with peers to support student learning 
  • Teaching experience and deep knowledge of all topics not required
  • Attend 75% of the sessions from September through May
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
