Refugee Patient Navigator

Refugee Patient Navigators (RPNs) assist with new client orientation and provide patients with the information and tools they need to successfully navigate the complex health care system. This program serves to streamline the intake process, facilitate existing direct services for clients, as well as identify and incorporate new services that will enhance our clients’ experiences. RPNs are also responsible for a variety of administrative tasks including, but not limited to: database maintenance, data entry, office organization, and event planning.

Volunteer Responsibilities: We are looking for highly motivated individuals to assist new patients through the process of navigating multiple medical appointments on our large medical campus and streamline agency efforts to coordinate the intake process. Volunteers will also make calls to patients reminding them of mental health and/or primary care appointments.

Qualifications: Ideal volunteers will have a strong interest in serving refugee and asylum seeker populations, demonstrated cultural sensitivity, commitment to the mission of BCRHHR, strong teamwork and organizational skills, excellent time management skills, and be open and responsive communicators. Proficiency in another language (especially Spanish and Haitian Creole) is desired but not required.

Schedule: Minimum commitment of 1 full (8 hr) day per week. To be negotiated according to the needs of the center and the volunteer.
