Malden is a Gateway City located north of Boston, accessible by the Orange Line at Oak Grove and Malden Center. As several news outfits report, Malden is experiencing a renaissance, with new development attracting a cross section of businesses and adding to the array of eating places. Malden is home to over 65,000 people, of whom 43% are born outside the United States. Malden has a gaming district and is becoming a thriving arts community, with an opera company, frequent exhibitions, live music, a shop selling fine art and handicrafts, and a Center for Arts and Culture in the planning stages. Focus on the environment is prevalent, with public/private initiatives working to enhance green spaces, conserve energy, increase clean energy, and restore various ecosystems - especially along the Malden River.
