Position Summary: Communities of Rooted Brilliance's (CRB) Once Upon a STEM Summer Reading Program is a place for children from all backgrounds to play, socialize, learn, and grow. The Summer Instructor is responsible for the overall supervision of all students enrolled in program. The ELL Summer Instructor carries out daily activities, ensures the safety and physical well-being of the children, maintains daily communication with parents, fulfilling the curriculum, and work within the YEP! team to provide a high-quality summer program experience! Training will be offered!

Job Responsibilities 

Program Facilitation

o   Ensure all children in program are tracked according to CRB expectations.

o   Engage children as individuals in a way that allows them to grow at their own abilities.

o   Support children in their social-emotional development using various approaches.

o   Intentionally plan disguised learning opportunities focused on literacy and STEM encouragement.

o   Support physical activity and nutrition education efforts by ensuring time is allowed for children to be active during the program day.

o   Work with other program staff to address any child behavior concerns.

o   Revisit plans and adapt lesson plans, and activities to meet the needs of the group you are working with.

Administrative Duties

o   Follow policies and procedures of CRB.

o   Respect confidentiality of CRB families and staff.

o   Keep accurate record of hours worked in time sheets.

o   Check email at least 2 times each week and respond to requests in a timely manner.

o   Communicate program concerns immediately to Youth Program Manager[SP1]  for further follow up.

o   Attend all pre-program trainings and staff meetings before program begins and any planned meetings scheduled during the duration of the program.

o   Complete any daily or weekly paperwork (master attendance, staff ratio sheet, pre & post evaluation for students)


o   Ensure a safe and healthy program environment by assisting with daily and weekly tasks.

o   Regularly clean and restock classroom materials.

o   Maintain classroom organization and encourage students to respect their classrooms and clean up after themselves.

o   Work with other instructors and program staff to plan culturally inclusive and developmentally appropriate activities that support different cultures, backgrounds, and school levels.

o   Communicate any space concerns or program needs to program manager.

o   Maintain daily, open communication with parents.

o   Communicate child concerns and family needs to co-workers and program manager


o   18 years or older.

o   Prior experience tutoring youth is helpful, but not necessary.

o   Cultural humility, including experience working with individuals who have limited formal education and/or English literacy skills.

o   Adept at facilitating educational activities with individuals or small groups.

o   Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

o   Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.

o   Abide by all CRB’s established protocols, codes of conduct, and procedures.

o   Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.

Experience working with staff and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences

Schedule:  This is a paid seasonal position ($15 per hour). It requires a commitment of 20 hours/week. The Summer Instructor will begin on August 2nd.

Our direct service includes programming at Panther Lake Elementary School. The program will run from 9:00am to 12:00 pm, from August 2 to August 20, 2021. This position reports to CRB’s Youth Program Manager.
