Bali Island is popular as the island of gods and is very famous for its culture and nature attractions. The project takes place in the western part of Bali. Unlike in the east where tourism is the main source of income, in the west there’s more rice farms and plantations, and fishing is a major activity. The busy seaport in Gilimanuk is the gateway that connects Bali and Java island through Bali sea. Most of the area is mountainous and consists of primary monsoon forest. The West Bali National Park has a total area of 19.000 ha and is an important place for conserving rare and endangered plants and animals.
We organize the international volunteer project to support schools in the western part of the island. We aim to meet the need of local students and teachers for improved communication and opportunities to interact with people from other countries. The schools provide basic compulsory education in math, languages, social studies, science, art and music. School hours are from 7 am to 1 pm, Monday to Saturday.
The volunteers will teach the students basic English and introduce some English kids songs. They will also do simple renovations in the school, such as making bookshelves for the library and painting classrooms. The volunteers will be also involved in extracurricular activities with the children like cultural exchange, playing, sport, art, scouting, music and traditional dance.
Study theme: The volunteers will be introduced to the Indonesian culture and customs in general, with a special focus on the local culture particularities in Bali. Some cultural visits are also foreseen.
