About COVID Survivors for Change

Covid Survivors for Change is a non-partisan nationwide community of people who have been directly impacted by COVID. We share our stories, support each other, and advocate for a stronger pandemic response to save the lives of others. Our efforts include:

  • Leading the COVID March to Remember, the largest single day for COVID awareness and action and awareness, with 34 events in 20 states
  • Building trauma-informed training programs to mobilize 500 survivors from 35 states on advocacy, story-sharing, and self-care
  • Hosting COVIDConnections, a weekly online support group consisting of more than 800 survivors around the nation
  • Building additional support programming for Long Haulers, Spanish-language speakers, and parents who have lost a partner or child to COVID
  • Hosting the first Empty Chair Memorial featuring 20,000 empty chairs as part of the National COVID-19 remembrance on the Mall in Washington, D.C.
  • Leading several national public awareness campaigns, including #AddYellow, with more than 1,500 participants and a social media reach of 10.5 million people
  • Leading other campaigns including #EmptyChair and #LastGift, encouraging Americans to follow public health and safety guidelines
  • Organizing two virtual national advocacy days with more than 150 participants, in support of COVID relief funding and in support of paid family and medical leave
  • Hosting two national survivor summits, attended by more than 130 survivors, focused on story-sharing to promote vaccination, state and local advocacy for relief resources, and public awareness

About the Position

The COVID Survivors for Change Advisory Board will support the work of COVID Survivors for Change and provide mission-based leadership, financial support, and influential advocacy support. Specific Advisory Board Member responsibilities include:


  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director as the organization strategic plan is developed, implemented, and adapted to meet the changing needs of COVID survivors
  • Ensure COVID Survivors for Change’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that represents the communities served by the organization


  • Consider COVID Survivors for Change a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts reflecting that priority (at minimum, at the level defined in the Board contract of $5,000)
  • Credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals (at minimum, at the level defined in the Board contract of $5,000)
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting other Board members, advocates, and resources as they align with the organization’s mission and strategy

Community & Advocacy

  • Serve on relevant committees, task forces, or special assignments
  • Represent COVID Survivors for Change to stakeholders, acting as an ambassador for the organization

Qualifications Summary

  • Extensive professional experience with executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, social services, or philanthropy/nonprofit sector (especially in public health/health and human services)
  • An understanding and commitment to COVID Survivors for Change’s beneficiaries, preferably based on experience or proximity to the issues
  • Natural affinity for cultivating relationships and convening, facilitating, influencing, and cultivating consensus amongst diverse individuals
  • Personal qualities of compassion, integrity, credibility, and a passion for the current and long-term recovery and well-being of COVID survivors
