UWOPED is an empowerment organization that was formed in 2009 with the sole aim of empowering vulnerable young women of different categories like girls who are school dropouts, young single mothers, widows, orphans etc. As an organization, we came to realize that the only thing needed by these vulnerable young women and mothers was the ability to have skills which they can use to make some money for a living so that they can be in position to take care of themselves and all their dependents. We aim to make sustainable change to the lives of women by making them able to help themselves in a variety of different areas.

  • Helping develop and coordinate your own projects, suggesting new ways of improving the ability of UWOPED’s women to help themselves .
  • Assisting in the day to day running of projects both in the field, we work with groups of women all across Buganda, and in the office.

Things that you want from a volunteer:

  • Experience in women’s empowerment or any of the skills we teach is preferred, but we accept volunteers with all levels of experience so long as they are willing to learn and work hard.
  • Ability to add something to projects and work well with the UWOPED team.
  • Assets of a volunteer: patience, understanding, willingness to learn, ability to adapt to a different culture and compassion.
