ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION 

The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute is a center of healing, teaching and learning for families and communities impacted by murder, trauma, grief and loss.  Our commitment is to transform society’s response to homicide so all families are treated with dignity and compassion.  Our programs and services are grounded in the Center for Disease Control’s social-ecological framework that interventions are needed at multiple levels in order to interrupt cycles of violence.

POSITION OVERVIEW AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Survivor Wellness Checks (Multi-lingual) Support Volunteer role is designed to offer support with practical and emotional needs, to the multi-lingual survivor community in the weeks, months and years after their loved one’s murder. 

The volunteer will be contacted by the administrative support team as needed to place 6-week post-funeral services calls and annual death anniversary calls to family members whose primary spoken language is one other than English. 

The volunteer will call survivors and communicate survivor needs back to the Administrative Support Team. 

HOURS: Up to 3 hours per month, which are flexible to volunteer’s availability.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Desire to serve the Survivor community with dignity and compassion
  • Fluency in oral and written communication skills in one or more of these languages: Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability and desire to practice active listening skills
  • Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable
