UWF is seeking volunteers to manage our social media platforms!

About Undocumented Women’s Fund, aka the Comadre Network

The Undocumented Women’s Fund (“UWF”) is a community care collective that seeks to develop sustainable mutual-aid networks, as well as to foster autonomous and gender-conscious organizing led by immigrant and undocumented women. Undocumented women face immense financial pressure during the COVID-19 crisis: they perform most of the unpaid care work that upholds their communities; face significant barriers to obtaining work; and, when they are employed, it is usually in low-wage, precarious and invisibilized jobs like domestic labor and care work. On top of this, their immigration status limits their access to basic social services and has been used to exclude them and their families from any kind of relief.

In response to this, the Fund works towards four main goals: (1) identify some of the most pressing needs of undocumented women who are head of their households in NYC; (2) build a network to mobilize existing resources to meet those needs; (3) provide direct financial support in areas where no other resources are available through distribution of cash grants; and (4) foster the development of sustainable mutual-aid systems – a “Comadre network” led by immigrant and undocumented women.

Social Media Manager: Instagram, Facebook and Twitter platforms help UWF connect with our broader community, especially during pandemic quarantining. Donations to the Fund increase along with our social media following and as our supporters continue to grow. As such, it’s important we maintain an active, relevant, and dynamic social media presence. We are looking for volunteers to coordinate these platforms for UWF.

Responsibilities include:

  • Brainstorming about content to publish
  • Creating Canva graphics to post in stories and publications
  • Organizing “posting calendar,” scheduling daily posts & daily IG stories, including photos to be included and captions in English and Spanish.
  • Managing Direct Messages (“DMs”)
  • Re-sharing posts where UWF has been tagged
  • Availability and commitment: Since our goal is to create a Comadre Network that fosters community-building among our grantees, we would like volunteers who are interested and committed to this network for the long run.
  • Time Commitment:
  • Approx. 3-4 hours per week (may vary depending on upcoming UWF events).
  • 1.5 hours bi-weekly commitment to attend our bi-weekly check-in meetings to update on any recurring needs from your respective teams. This time commitment is in addition to your general responsibilities respective to your assigned team.
