The Unlimited Alternatives Board of Directors is responsible for development and oversight of policies, procedures, and regulations for organizational operations, and works closely with the Executive Director to monitor the organization’s financial health, programming, and overall performance. The board President will preside over board meetings, collaborate closely with the Executive Director, and serve as the official representative of the board.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, all board matters are being performed virtually.
Position Specific
- Preside over monthly board meetings
- Set meeting agendas, in collaboration with the Executive Director and board Secretary
- Meet, as needed, with the Executive Director outside of formal board meetings
- Promote the mission and values of Unlimited Alternatives
- Promote dignity and respect for staff and individuals attending Unlimited Alternatives
- Serve as point of contact for organization legal counsel, human resources consultant, and strategic planning consultants
- Volunteer for or assist with at least one organization event or participants’ activity per fiscal year (October-September)
Board Specific
- Participate in the hire, evaluation, and discharge process of the Executive Director, as needed
- Establish organizational policies with input from the Executive Director and staff, when applicable
- Monitor the organization’s finances including review and approval of the annual budget
- Maintain awareness of state, federal, and contractual requirements, including laws, policies, and guidelines
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be a person with lived experience as a “primary consumer” of mental health services (per the Michigan Medicaid Manual)
- Have a passion for promoting mental health recovery and access to services
- Strong leadership skills, including experience bringing together individuals of varying abilities
- Reliable access to an internet compatible device for email
- Have a flexible schedule; ability to attend meetings with 7-10 days notice
- Familiarity with Google Workspace (formerly GSuite) and/or Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Gmail
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of the public mental health system
- Previous non-profit board leadership experience
- Proficiency with Google Workspace (formerly GSuite) and/or Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Gmail
