    Position Overview: motherhouse collective is seeking an experienced and dedicated Volunteer Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to help us establish robust financial practices during our start-up phase. As the Volunteer CFO, you will play a key role in setting up our financial and accounting systems, ensuring compliance with nonprofit standards, and supporting the organization's financial growth. Your expertise will help lay a solid financial foundation as we work to support mothers through co-working spaces, childcare services, and personal development programs.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Establish Financial Systems: Develop and implement accounting systems and internal controls appropriate for a nonprofit organization. Ensure the systems support efficient tracking and reporting of income, expenses, and donor-restricted funds.
    • Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the creation of the organization’s first operational budget, including cash flow projections, revenue forecasts, and expense tracking. Assist in updating and refining the budget as needed.
    • Financial Reporting: Set up processes for regular financial reporting, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, and variance analyses. Ensure the organization has a clear understanding of its financial position.
    • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all nonprofit financial regulations, including local, state, and federal reporting requirements. Establish policies to manage financial risk and ensure the organization’s financial sustainability.
    • Audit Preparation: Set up systems that will allow for smooth financial audits in the future, including proper documentation of financial activities and internal controls.
    • Fundraising Support: Work with the Chief Development Officer to provide financial oversight on donor campaigns, grants, and sponsorships. Ensure accurate financial tracking of donations and grant compliance.
    • Grant and Donor Fund Tracking: Develop systems to accurately track both restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring donor intent is followed, and that reporting is transparent and compliant with nonprofit standards.
    • Financial Leadership: Provide financial insights and recommendations to the Executive Director and management team to guide the financial strategy and decision-making of the organization.
      • Work with the Board Treasurer and Finance committee

    Qualifications:

    • Proven experience in financial management, accounting, or a related field, preferably within a nonprofit or start-up environment.
    • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, including donor-restricted funds, grant management, and financial reporting.
    • Ability to set up and maintain accounting systems and internal controls in a dynamic, evolving start-up environment.
    • Experience in budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow management.
    • Familiarity with financial management software and tools.
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

    Commitment:

    • Dedicate time to establishing financial systems and providing ongoing financial oversight and support as the organization grows.
    • Work closely with the Executive Director and management team to ensure financial best practices are in place.
    • 5 hours per week will be required for this position
    • Attend all Board Meetings
