EcoArt Online Magazine Editorial Assistant

 Oversee the production of Women Eco Artists Dialog online Magazine including Author Communications, Article Management, Article Publishing on Wordpress, Programming, and Publicity.

WEAD is looking for a detail oriented, organized, reliable WordPress savvy person who is passionate about the cultural impact of ecoart and social justice art. See list of specific tasks at bottom of this description. Writing skills, editing skills, good communication skills, as well as ability to post on WordPress Website and manage documents and spreadsheets in Google Docs are a must. Ability to create Mailchimp emailings and facebook and instagram posts also desired.

The current issue of the magazine, "The Politics of Empathy", has already accepted proposals and will go online in October. This position is a unique opportunity to work on the magazine under the direction of the Founder of WEAD and a Professor of Art History & Global Cultures.

The "call" invited submissions from artists, critics, art historians, feminist thinkers, and relevant writers to address a range of issues from multi-species empathy to climate-change apathy.  

Essays were sought revealing the strategies of artists who employ the empathetic approach to all living things, inclusive of humans and non-humans, sharing affinity with communities of living organisms.   On the other end of the spectrum, we also wanted to learn about artists who have challenged, resisted, and exposed the apathy of non-action and environmental destruction.

The aim of this special issue is to expand our comprehension, and emphasize the critical need for Politics of Empathy in view of the precariousness of all life in this climate generation.

Responsibilities of WEAD Magazine Editorial Assistant

Manage Communications 

• Create Magazine Timeline (done)
• Submit Magazine Proposal Call to be posted on WEAD website update form (done)
• Send out Proposal call in Mailchimp, post on Instagram and Facebook (done)
• Send acception or rejection emails to applicants (done)
• Create Magazine Author Spreadsheet in GDocs
• Send Magazine timeline, article specifications, honorarium information, image consent form to authors
• Receive, read articles and pass to Directors 
• Send Author names and emails to WEAD treasurer to pay Honorarium 

Manage Articles 

• Create Google folders for all articles
• Put into WEAD format before sending to editors
• Send all edits back to Authors for approval
• Collect and resize images for articles if needed
• Create homepage mock-up for Magazine Editor(s)
• Upload approved articles and images to Wordpress 
• Send preview link of essay once uploaded to Authors for review before publishing live
• Publish live

Manage Author Listings

• Update or create an Artist listing in the WEAD directory for Authors 
• Make sure the expiration date is correct on their membership. Authors get one year free.

Magazine Marketing

• Create and send out MailChimp announcements
• Send personal announcement message to Author with link
• Create Instagram and Facebook posts 
• Organize a livestream event to promote Magazine
