Location:  Richmond, California (Remote)


Renaissance East Bay office seeks a Volunteer Manager. This is an unpaid, volunteer-based position. The Volunteer manager supervises volunteers and provides direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions


About Renaissance: Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center (www.rencenter.org) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit social impact organization. We have been building better communities for 35 years by helping lower income women and men start and grow their own businesses, transforming the lives of their owners and creating sustainable jobs, economic vitality, and vibrant neighborhoods. Renaissance operates four program centers and multiple off-site programs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.


Note: During the current Coronavirus Pandemic, Renaissance is adhering to health and safety social distance protocols; all staff are currently working from home through virtual teleconference and collaboration tools. 


Duties:

  • Develop, promote, and maintain volunteer opportunities for Renaissance East Bay
  • Survey staff regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance 
  • Maintain descriptions for each volunteer assignment
  • Conduct and/or arrange for volunteer orientation, onboarding and training 
  • Schedule all volunteer activity
  • Recruit, interview and place applicants for volunteer work
  • Reach out to current list of people interested in volunteering and posting job descriptions on recruiting sites
  • Work with marketing and professional associations to publicize opportunities for volunteers 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other volunteer organizations within the area
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers 
  • Act as the primary point of contact for communications
  • Confer with volunteers to resolve issues and promote cooperation and interest 
  • Assign and supervise volunteers to expand programmatic outcomes 


Qualifications 

To be successful, an individual must be able to perform each job duty satisfactorily. 


Education and Experience 

  • Minimum: Possession of a high school diploma or GED 
  • Previous management experience
  • managing volunteer programs, leading teams and/or organizations
  • Knowledge of management principles and evaluation techniques related to programs that involve a cadre of volunteers 
  • Previous business experience a plus 
  • Accounting, marketing, legal, HR or any commiserate experience
  • Familiarity with small businesses and startups 


Skills 

  • Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage 
  • Record keeping skills (for admissions and marketing) 
  • Organization and planning skills 


Capabilities 

  • Demonstrated capability to conduct one’s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations 
  • Demonstrated capability to effectively communicate orally and in writing ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers 
  • Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job 
  • Ability to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities 
  • Ability to work productively in a self-directed environment


Time Commitments 

  • Flexible hours. Minimum 10 hours per week
  • Hours are generally Monday through Friday, between 9 am and 5 pm.
