Title: Shelter Support
Purpose: Work with and support staff in assisting clients with basic requests/needs and the general functioning of the shelter. In addition, volunteers answer crisis calls and other calls that come into the shelter.
Supervision: Direct Services Manager and Volunteer Coordinator
Hours: One shift a week, any day 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
Essential functions:
- Greet and assist residents with various needs
- Answer crisis calls and fill out initial contact forms and relevant screening forms
- Answer and direct business calls
- Provide information collected from crisis calls to staff advocates so they can determine eligibility for admittance to shelter
- Assist with projects as needed
- Respond to visitors and direct to appropriate staff
Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with clients and staff effectively
- Must be able to multi-task efficiently
- Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of tasks
- Knowledge of domestic violence and crisis intervention
- Ability to effectively engage in crisis intervention on the phone and in person
- Ability to get along well with others
- Basic understanding and acceptance of Crossroads philosophy and purpose
- Knowledge of Crossroads programs, services, and events
- Knowledge of community resources
- Good written and oral communication
