Lori’s Hands is a community health service learning organization that connects college student volunteers with individuals living in their own homes with chronic illness. In non-COVID times, students make weekly in-home friendly companionship visits, and assist clients with non-medical tasks like grocery shopping, housework, and other instrumental activities of daily living. During the pandemic, students are connecting with their Lori’s Hands clients by phone and video calls, and are assisting with ordering grocery delivery, connecting to other community services, and providing companionship. Lori’s Hands has been operational in Newark, DE for 10 years and is launching its second chapter in Baltimore, MD this fall. We are actively recruiting student volunteers! Lori’s Hands has an established history of mentoring students for field placements, community clinical rotations, internships, required service hours for medical/PA school applications, and other professional development opportunities.
