Research Assistant - English Language Assessment

ENGin is looking for research assistants to join a team developing an innovative online assessment of spoken English fluency. Primary responsibilities include scoring samples using a detailed rubric, providing rubric feedback and helping develop supporting materials. Optionally, RAs may choose to work on data analysis as well.

Who we are: ENGin is a peer-to-peer English language program connecting English learners age 13-22 to volunteers who are fluent in English for free online language practice. We have over 5,000 participants and are growing rapidly. One of our major priorities for this year is developing an assessment to accurately measure our program impact.

Who we're looking for: Our ideal candidate will have experience with assessment and evaluation (in an academic setting or in the field) and/or experience teaching English as a Foreign Language. You should be able to dedicate 5-10 hours/week to the role for a minimum of 3 months. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a proactive, positive attitude are key.

What we can offer: You'll join a dynamic, talented team at a growing nonprofit. Your work will directly impact thousands of students. We will provide extensive training and a real-world, hands-on learning experience.

We are also happy to offer you data analysis tasks if you like. We have a huge amount of detailed data from our assessments as well as other student data, and a number of research questions to explore. Or, you can design your own research project using our data (for a class, thesis, etc).

Logistics: This is a virtual role with flexible hours. RAs should have access to a computer and headset. This is an unpaid position.

Please email your resume and a short note of interest to katerina@enginprogram.org to apply.
