Legal Hand, Inc. has created a virtual Call-In Center where trained community Volunteers, who are not lawyers, provide free legal information, assistance, and referrals to help low-income members of the community resolve issues that affect their lives in areas like housing, family law, immigration, domestic violence and public benefits and try to prevent problems from turning into legal actions. Assistance is provided to all, without income screening or appointments required, and are available some regular business hours, evenings and weekends.
Legal Hand Volunteers provide legal information, assistance, and referrals. Volunteers do not provide legal advice. Volunteers play an important role in Legal Hand's mission to improve access to justice in low-income communities by directing people to effective resources and ensuring they know their rights in a given situation. Volunteers are provided with training and learn valuable advocacy skills. Legal Hand Volunteers come from all backgrounds and walks of life— from college students to retirees, and no experience in legal work is necessary. Volunteers will be paid a modest stipend.
