Join our team as a volunteer social media manager

Who we’re looking for: Two (2) volunteer social media managers to join our growing social media team, so the duties will be doable on a volunteer basis. You will have experience managing multiple social media channels. You will also create a warm and safe space where people can connect with others and talk about mental health and post-traumatic growth. And you can serve from anywhere! Our focus is on engagement and reach.

The Better Because Collective is a 100% volunteer-run mental health-focused nonprofit organization founded in January 2019. We're a small team of dedicated volunteers working remotely around the world. We're passionate about supporting people in writing their personal narratives of post-traumatic growth.

Time commitment: The role is ongoing, and has a time commitment of around 5-6 hours per week as the organization grows.

Communications: We're a small team of dedicated volunteers working remotely around the world. As such, open communication and clear expectations are necessary to get things done, in a timely manner. We value your time and commitment just as much you value ours. We often use Discord to discuss and debate, and a shared mailbox for organization-related emails.

Someone who would be perfect for this role would have:

  • A passion for mental health
  • At least 1-2 years of experience managing multiple social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn with proven results
  • Experience writing social media copy and publishing content. 
  • Knowledge of how to respond to mentions, comments, and messages on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. The ability to draw followers into a conversation and drive engagement
  • An understanding of how to digest social media analytics and turn raw data into insights

This volunteer would be responsible for:

  • Working closely with content creators to develop content and publish on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Respond and manage mentions, messages, and comments on social media on a daily basis.
  • Maintain our brand and style guidelines on social media platforms  
  • Keep up to date with relevant news, similar accounts, and engaging with our community and other brands on social channels

This volunteer would be skilled in: 

  • Using Hootsuite, Canva, Discord, Zoom, Trello and, Google Drive
  • Written communication skills
  • Working independently and setting realistic goals and deadlines
  • Empathy, patience, and the capacity to communicate in real-time with the marketing manager who’s based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
