The Treasurer plays a vital role in the financial health and accountability of the League of Women Voters of Denver. This volunteer leadership position manages the organization’s financial operations, ensures compliance with reporting requirements, and provides financial transparency to the Board and membership. Duties include:
Financial Management
- Maintain monthly accounting records in QuickBooks.
- Prepare and present monthly financial reports (Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss vs. Budget aka Budget Report).
- Reconcile bank accounts each month.
- Pay invoices and reimbursements in a timely manner.
- Collect, deposit, and track all incoming funds.
- Maintain records of invoices, deposits, and payments.
Payroll & Tax Compliance
- Manage payroll for the part-time Office Manager (bi-monthly timesheets and paychecks).
- File and remit quarterly payroll taxes: Federal 941, Colorado Withholding, Colorado FAMLI, Denver Occupational Tax.
- File annual W-2 and W-3 forms in January.
- Prepare and submit quarterly Colorado and Denver sales tax related to flower bulb sales.
Budgeting & Reporting
- Lead preparation of the annual budget (fiscal year: July 1 – June 30).
- Work with the Budget Committee to finalize and present the budget to the Board for approval in April.
- Provide an annual financial overview and budget presentation at the May Annual Meeting.
- Attend the annual Board Retreat to review and discuss financial planning.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Prepare year-end financial notebook for CPA to complete IRS Form 990.
- File annual Trade Name Renewal with the Colorado Secretary of State (July).
- File annual Charitable Organization Registration Statement with the Colorado Secretary of State (November).
Qualifications
- Familiarity with QuickBooks or other accounting software.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting deadlines.
- Financial, bookkeeping, or accounting experience preferred.
