Are you an energetic “people person,” interested in serving the community and learning about food access? We are seeking two AmeriCorps members to join our food bank crew in the vibrant Downtown Seattle community around Pike Place Market. Both positions will provide direct service to clients on-site and through our home delivery program and will also have opportunities to round out their service focusing on operations/warehouse support or community relations/donations. This role offers great variety and dynamic hands-on tasks that are crucial to the operations of this long-standing community organization.

The Pike Market Senior Center and Food Bank are sister agencies in downtown Seattle. The Senior Center strives to make each day better and safer for older adults. The Food Bank serves people of all ages who face hunger. Together, we provide services, activities, and support that lead to more self-sufficient and fulfilling lives. In Downtown Seattle, as many as 30% of our community members face food insecurity. The AmeriCorps member will help ensure access to nutritious food for members of our community, as well as promote a welcoming, friendly, and respectful service environment. Interviews will be held on a rolling basis starting in July 2022. Position is contingent upon funding.

Member Duties

The AmeriCorps member will serve by participating in many aspects of food bank operations, including serving walk-in grocery clients; packing and delivering home delivery bags; and helping clients without access to cooking facilities access our no-cook options. The member will also have opportunities to develop projects to support the food bank in constantly striving for service improvement. Possible projects could involve client feedback, background research for strategic planning, hosting creative volunteer activities, or collaborating with volunteers/students on projects related to culturally tailored services. The AmeriCorps member will serve side-by-side with food bank staff and dedicated volunteers and will have the

opportunity to venture outside the food bank itself, into the vibrant Pike

Market community, to help with donations collection, deliveries, and other

activities.

Volunteer Type: Temporary at 40+ hours per week for

8.5 months commitment starting September 1, 2022.  Schedule: Monday to Friday

Program Benefits: Training, Health Coverage, Childcare assistance if eligible, Stipend, Education award upon successful completion of service.

This is a volunteer position that provides a living stipend. Please see the AmeriCorps website for more information about enrolling in the Washington Service Corps.
