    Description

Help a local senior feel less isolated! (Sarasota County)

Friendly Visitor Volunteer - Help a local senior feel less isolated! You’ll be matched one-on-one with a senior and visit them in their home to say hello and enjoy each other’s company.

The Senior Friendship Centers Friendly Visitor Program matches volunteers with local home-bound seniors who request a friend to come to their home about once per week to check-in and provide some company. Depending on interests, you might take a walk, play card games, watch tv, or just have a nice chat. We are looking for volunteers who would enjoy getting to know and build relationships with a local senior on a one-on-one basis, visiting them in their home.

    Schedule:

    • Scheduling is flexible, dependent on the individual senior and volunteer. Visits are typically weekly for 1 - 2 hours.
    • This position requires that you are year-round Florida resident, and we ask that you are able to commit to a minimum of one year of service.

    Location:

    • We’ll pair you up with a senior in your area in Sarasota County.

    Requirements:

    • Able to commit to a minimum of one year of service typically on a weekly basis.
    • Have a kind and patient personality with ability to engage with seniors.
    • Be reliable and maintain good communication with the senior client and their SFC Case Manager.
    • Successfully pass a Level 2 Background Screening.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with seniors.
    • Ability to interact professionally with all staff, clients, volunteers, and community partners.
    • Friendly, flexible, able to handle challenges, and able to work with limited supervision.
    • Must possess cultural awareness and sensitivity for all individuals and groups.

    Preferred/Bonus:

    • Own transportation and ability to run errands for seniors
    • Spanish language fluency
