Job Description

Graze in Peace, a nonprofit farm animal sanctuary and learning center located in Durham Maine, is looking for experienced professionals with a passion for our mission and a background in business and financial planning and/or nonprofit development. We are a young growing organization looking for people who are able to commit to the time and responsibilities of serving on a "working board."

At Graze in Peace, board members are expected to perform two-fold duties: 1) Governing: develop and oversee strategic plans and policies (through monthly Board meetings) and 2) Working: do the work necessary to implement the plans and policies (through active committee work).


Key Responsibilities

* Be familiar with the organization’s programs, policies and operations

* Be willing to chair a committee and do the hands-on administrative, fundraising, and other necessary work of running Graze until Graze can support paid staff to take on more of these tasks

* Actively promote our mission, programs and fundraising activities

* Attend monthly board meetings as well as regular committee meetings

* Make an annual contribution to the organization commensurate with ability

* Attend and represent Graze at major fundraising and/or outreach events

* Actively network to identify and cultivate potential donors and other support

* Strictly adhere to confidentiality and conflict of interest policies

* Maintain and report a record of volunteer hours


Time Commitment

* One Year initial term

* Board meetings (1-2 hours/month; virtual)

* Committee work (approximately 2 hours/week)

* Occasional meetings with potential donors/supporters (virtually or in-person) to make a case for funding Graze in Peace

* Participate in donor appreciation activities, including thank you letter writing, phone calling & in-person or virtual meetings


Qualifications

* 21 yrs or older

* Prior experience serving on a non-profit board or volunteering in a lead role at another non-profit
