Walk or run with persons experiencing homelessness!

What is Back on My Feet?

Back on My Feet is a national nonprofit organization that uses community support, physical activity, and essential employment and housing resources to empower and uplift persons experiencing homelessness towards lives of self-sufficiency.

Check out our national website here.

How does it work?

Through commitment to three early morning community walks or runs per week and participation in various career readiness programs, members gain the skills, resources, and network needed to set and achieve meaningful employment, education, job training, housing, and financial goals.

See our program in action here.

What is the need?

Back on My Feet has an ongoing need to recruit and retain dedicated, service-oriented community members to walk or run with our members at weekday early morning runs. Volunteers provide crucial social support and encouragement to members as they tackle challenges on the road. This energy is then taken forward to support members as they take on career readiness and achievement. In essence, running is used as a tool to build confidence and community that empowers.

Where, when, and how do morning runs happen?

Back on My Feet Baltimore operates 5 teams out of transitional housing and inpatient recovery facilities across the city. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5:30AM-6:30AM, members and volunteers "Circle Up", share in a get-to-know-you activity, and take off together (in pairs or groups of 3) to walk or run 1-4 miles.

*** THIS IS AN IN-PERSON OPPORTUNITY ***

All participants are required to:

  1. Sign-up using the Golden volunteer platform (to ensure small group sizes)
  2. E-sign or physically sign the COVID-19 community waiver
  3. Wear a face covering at all times
  4. Refrain from physical interactions/touching
  5. Maintain 6 feet of distance wherever possible
  6. Stay home if they feel sick!

How do I get started?

All volunteers are required to attend a New Volunteer Orientation before attending a morning run or other opportunity. Please use this Golden link to sign-up for an upcoming orientation date. The calendar invitation with the Zoom link will be sent the week of the event.
