Teach Swimming Lessons to Children in a Beautiful Beach Town in Brazil

Volunteer Swimming Instructors Needed!

ETIV do Brasil is partnering with SwimTayka to offer swimming lessons to low income children living on the coast of Bahia, Brazil in a beautiful fishing and surfing town known as Itacare. We are looking for one volunteer or intern that is a certified swim teacher and who can be our lead swim teacher, as well as 3 or 4 volunteers that can support the lead teacher and help him or her in the pool with the daily swimming lessons. This position is seasonal and will only be taking place 2 months out of the year. Meanwhile, this is the only position we offer where volunteers can come for as little as 2 weeks to participate.

Timetable

Currently, we are looking for volunteers that can volunteer with us to teach swimming lessons during the months of April and May 2020. Volunteers will be allowed to stay for as little as 2 or 3 weeks, although we highly recommend that volunteers come for at least a month if not the full two months that the project will take place. Time flies by very quickly here, and those that stay longer are often able to build much stronger relationship with the children, the community and the NGO. 

Main Responsibilities:

• To support our youth programs, with particular attention to those programs lacking teacher or volunteer support
• To take attendance and document outcomes including successes, challenges and best practices for every class.
• To teach many of the core values that lay the foundation for ETIV's work, also listed above.

Requirements:

• Volunteers must work at least 20 hours per week
• Basic Portuguese
• Minimum 2 weeks time commitment
• Ability to swim
• Our lead teacher will need to be certified in CPR and have a swimming certificate

Most interns can receive university credit while interning with our NGO and some are even able to receive a University stipend or grant to help cover their expenses. We can offer ongoing support and supervision and can help organize taxi pickups, local accommodations and even Capoeira or Portuguese classes. All volunteers and interns will also receive our Pre-Departure Powerpoint, and Introduction to the NGO, a tour of Itacare and life insurance during their internship at the NGO.
