If you have skills in the areas of marketing, fundraising, event planning, technology, finance, or are willing to connect WMG with your people to build great exhibitions or member programs, we want you!
Woman Made Gallery is Chicago’s first feminist art gallery. Our mission is to support, cultivate, and promote women-identified artists through exhibitions, membership, and community dialogue programs. Since its founding in 1992, WMG has worked toward the equal placement of women’s art in the world and building a community of its own.
WMG is committed to artistic excellence in three focus areas. Eight exhibitions are hosted annually at WMG in Pilsen. Nearly 300 member artists are supported annually through the WMG network. Panel discussions, literary arts events, and additional public programming inspire community dialogue. As a feminist arts organization, WMG provides opportunities for women-identified artists, curators and art patrons. In addition to the artworld ecosystem, WMG serves the broader community through dialogue programs and making art accessible to non-artists.
Woman Made Gallery is seeking board members committed to social justice in the arts and whose energy will push forward the 29-year-old organization. Under new leadership, WMG is planning new organizational strategies and strengthening programs to grow audience reach and revenue. WMG seeks connected, mission-focused folks and advisors in organizational growth. Board Members will be experts in their field and able to cultivate supporters to pivot WMG from a resourceful artist space to a sophisticated nonprofit. A range of age and lived experience are desired to be a voice at the table and reflect the diversity of Chicago’s arts community. Candidates should identify as women, femme/transfemme, genderqueer or nonbinary.
We welcome remote applicants but appreciate those who are able to attend in-person meetings and events as the world opens back up after COVID. Board positions require a 1-year commitment that includes joining one committee (most meet monthly) and attending bimonthly board meetings. Most meetings are weekday evenings but some may be at other times. Being able to attend some gallery events that take place on evenings and weekends is strongly desired.
