Greeters are the first face patrons see when they enter the festival This role entails being stationed in pairs at each entrance of Churchill Square to greet the public, answer questions, and most importantly count patrons as they enter and leave the festival grounds with a mechanical counter.

The Works Art & Design Festival is the most unique, free event of its kind. It attracts artists, designers and patrons from around the world – boosting the city’s energy and imagination at the start of each summer. The 2023 Festival dates are July 7th-July 16.

As greeters work in pairs, this is a great position for those looking to volunteer in pairs. This position is great for anyone enthusiastic about community or public art. Speaking English is NOT a requirement for this position. This is a great position for those looking to enhance their social skills or to volunteer with friends.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Remain stationed at specific entrances and count patrons as they enter and leave the festival grounds with the use of mechanical counters once an hour.
  • Be a friendly face and/or greet patrons as they enter and leave the festival.
  • Respond or re-direct questions that patrons may have about the festival. While this is not a constant in this position, it is bound to happen from time to time

Skills and Assets Required:

  • The ability to remain outside for an entire shift in all (safe) weather conditions is required.
  • Comfort being approached by and communicating, responding or re-directing questions in some way to the public is an asset.
  • Ability to stay in the same area for entirety of shift is required.
  • The ability to multi-task is an asset.

Time Required:

  • Typical volunteer shifts are 3-4 hours in length including a 30-minute break. Accommodation can be arranged.
  • We ask our volunteers to commit to a minimum of 3 shifts. Accommodation can be arranged.
  • Attendance to a 1.5-hour in-person orientation is mandatory, however there will be multiple held to allow for differing schedules. Accommodation can also be arranged.
