Friendly Visitor or Telephone Reassurance Volunteer - Help a local senior feel less isolated!
You’ll be matched one-on-one with a senior and visit them in their home or connect on the phone to say hello and enjoy each other’s company.
The Senior Friendship Centers Friendship at Home Program matches volunteers with local home-bound seniors who request a friend to come to their home or call on the phone about once per week to check-in and provide some company. For in-person visits, depending on interests, you might take a walk, play card games, watch tv, or just have a nice chat. We are looking for volunteers who would enjoy getting to know and build relationships with a local senior on a one-on-one basis.
Schedule:
- Scheduling is flexible, dependent on the individual senior and volunteer. Visits/calls are typically weekly for 1 - 2 hours.
Location:
- We’ll pair you up with a senior in your area.
Requirements:
- Able to commit to service typically on a weekly basis.
- Have a kind and patient personality with ability to engage with seniors.
- Be reliable and maintain good communication with the senior client and their SFC Case Manager.
- Successfully pass a Level 2 Background Screening.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with seniors.
- Ability to interact professionally with all staff, clients, volunteers, and community partners.
- Friendly, flexible, able to handle challenges, and able to work with limited supervision.
- Must possess cultural awareness and sensitivity for all individuals and groups.
