    What is Clear Currents?

Clear Currents is a community paddling event that celebrates improved water quality in RI and celebrates the cleaner water brought upon by the opening of the Narragansett Bay Commission Combined Sewer Overflow; an initiative that has greatly improved water quality throughout the entire bay area. Clear Currents features 50 illuminated Japanese Koi Fish temporarily mounted on canoes and kayaks that registered participants will paddle up and down the river after sunset.

New! WaterFire ditches the plastic water bottle this season! Last season we eliminated the plastic from constructing the braziers and this season we want to reduce our carbon footprint by eliminating the need for single-use plastic bottles. We ask that you please bring a reusable water bottle to your shift and you will be able to refill on site.

    Volunteer Team Requests:

    • If you are unable to make it to your shift, please let me know as soon as possible or unregister on the website.
    • Please be on time for your shift! WaterFire volunteers have the most important role to make a WaterFire lighting possible.
    • WaterFire will go on regardless of the weather, so please plan accordingly. We will be in touch if there are any emergencies.

*You will receive a WaterFire Reminder Email the Wednesday prior to the event at 10:00 AM*

*Check in time subject to change*
