Queen Community House's Friendly Visiting Program matches homebound older adults with volunteers in their community, creating intergenerational relationships in Western, Central and Southwest Queens. These areas include Long Island City, Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Corona, Maspeth, Middle Village, Ridgewood, Glendale, Rego Park, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Woodhaven, Richmond Hill, Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Jamaica, Hollis, St. Albans, The Rockaways and Broad Channel
The program also aims to reduce isolation and loneliness amongst seniors in our neighborhoods and communities.
We're currently in need of Spanish, French, Cantonese, Hungarian, Romanian, Greek, Hebrew and Yiddish speaking volunteers to provide social engagement to older adults in our community. Friendly visiting is an enriching opportunity for the volunteer to develop a meaningful friendship. Together, the older adult and volunteer can discuss shared interests & hobbies learn/teach new skills, read books, learn technology, go for walks, and much more!!
Friendly Visiting volunteers must be 18 and over, provide 2 non-related references, be open to committing to 6 months of volunteerism, and consent to a background check. Volunteers can either call or do in-person visits the older adult upon approval.
