Child Advocate

A CASA volunteer, involved in a D&N case, is appointed by the judge and assigned by our Program Coordinator to work with a child in need of support.

The main responsibility of this volunteer is to get to know the child and their life situation, the child’s desires and needs. As a volunteer you then become the voice of that child in court by recommending services and support to help the child develop a path toward a successful future. In Dependency and Neglect Cases, the family is in court due to their actions and the risk it presents to the well-being of the child. In some instances, the child may be removed from the home, or may have limited visitation with one or more parent. The advocate will meet with the child and the parent(s)/care giver to gain knowledge of the child and their life situation. The CASA volunteer submit reports to the judge, attends court and speaks, on behalf of the child, for their best interests to be in a safe and permanent home.
