Refugee Youth and Empowerment (RYSE) Initiative provides cross-collaboration and capacity building infrastructure for community-based mentorship programs supporting young adult refugees working towards academic, career, and personal goals.

The Curriculum Specialist role is a unique opportunity to join an all-volunteer nonprofit startup while learning and showcasing your ability to develop trainings to educate, inform, and guide volunteers and refugees throughout the mentorship relationship. This is an unpaid position with flexible hours and is completely remote.

There are 4 sectors of trainings to be designed: the modules for new mentors, and three additional module groups that are available for refugees and mentors to work on together including academic advising, career counseling, and personal development. The team member will have the opportunity to work on all sectors or just work on one based on their preference.

Mentor Training

The mentor training modules are designed to prepare potential mentors and guarantee that mentors are thoroughly aware and informed on the refugee experience. The goal is to ensure that all mentors are working in non-oppressive and anti-racist lenses.

Academic Advising

The academic advising modules are designed to be a collaborative experience for the mentor and mentees to engage with informational content that includes subjects such as keys to academic success, the potential educational opportunities available in the United States, and content surrounding education equity for migrants.

Career Counseling

The career counseling modules are designed to be a collaborative experience for the mentor and mentees to engage with informational content that includes subjects such as the job market, creating resumes, assets and barriers to employment, and potential career options.

Personal Development

The personal development modules are designed to be a collaborative experience for the mentor and mentees to engage with informational content that includes subjects such as goal setting, social and emotional well-being, and expanding upon potential and capabilities.
