Please note that our office is currently closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic but we continue to provide our services remotely. For all 2021 volunteer opportunities, we will be working remotely until further notice.

The Rian Immigrant Center is seeking motivated enthusiastic translators/ interpreters. We have needs across the organization but special requests from our Immigration Legal Services team. Are you fluent in Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Arabic, Tigrinya, or Amharic or Aramaic? Are you passionate about immigrants’ rights? This is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in using their language skill to help serve in their community, but do not have a lot of time to regularly volunteer. Interpreting or translating at Rian can be flexible and built around your schedule. Our need for support varies by per week.

You can help to empower immigrants and refugees by supporting our nonprofit legal services team through telephonic simultaneous interpretation or translating written records, affidavits and vital records from English into the foreign language, or from the other language into English.

In addition to current college students and graduates, this opportunity is available to anyone who is a high school senior graduating in 2021, who has graduated high school or gotten a GED, or has already completed some college (providing you have some experience) Note: High school student volunteer translators require an endorsement letter from a teacher or school administrator. High school students are also limited to written translations only for the first three (3) months of volunteering and do not interpret in live client meetings until after then.

TIME COMMITMENT: Volunteers will be on standby for assignments as they arise (a few hours per month), generally between Monday and Friday except that document translation hours may be done at any time. We are closed on weekends and holidays.
