Blue Heart funds grassroots organizations building the political power of low-income communities and communities of color. In turn, we help develop and inspire an ethic of philanthropy in young folks seeking to engage with social and environmental justice issues.

Every month, we feature a different community-led, grassroots organization in the Bay Area and nationally. We send our members stories from frontline movement builders, political education to understand the context and history of their movements, and a set of action opportunities to engage further. Our members make recurring monthly donations, the majority of which goes directly to our grassroots partner organizations. And a portion goes to our Creator's Fund, which makes small annual grants to support these organizations in communicating their revolutionary visions through collaborative projects with artists.

We are looking for an Art Manager to join our team to manage the partnership, production, and sending of two art prints each year to our membership base. The Art Manager will also manage Blue Heart’s Creator’s Fund. Collaboration with artists is a crucial way that we connect our members to the grassroots organizations they are supporting.

You would lead the effort to commission two visual artists each year and broker a creative collaboration with two grassroots, movement building organizations to produce a visual piece that can be printed in approximately a 5x8 inch format and sent to our members. We have a database of local artists who we have relationships with and have worked with in the past.

Time commitment: Average of 3 hours/month, but concentrated mostly in the months of June and November

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Blue Heart leadership team to develop and implement a bi-annual artist commission
  • Be the primary point of contact for the artist throughout the engagement
  • Produce approximately 300 art print reproductions of the commissioned piece
  • Coordinate the packaging and mailing of these prints to our members in June and in December (All printing, packaging, and mailing supplies will be arranged for and paid for.)

Qualifications:

  • Alignment with Blue Heart’s vision, mission, and values
  • Prompt communication habits (email, text, and Slack)
  • Experience working with teams
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Passionate about the role of art in social change
  • Experience working with artists is a plus
  • Excited to bring ideas, energy, and creativity to the Blue Heart team!

You’ll get to work with our team of friendly, passionate volunteers and play a critical role in growing Blue Heart’s reach and impact! We strongly encourage people of color, Indigenous, gender-oppressed, LBGTQI+, and differently abled people to apply.
