We are looking for a motivated, talented volunteer to join RGI as a member of the fundraising team. You will work alongside the Director of Finance to identify potential donors, submit funding proposals, and execute annual campaigns. In addition to researching and writing funding proposals, you will help oversee the overall grant management process by tracking reporting deadlines and ensuring compliance with funding requirements. You should feel comfortable communicating with existing and potential funding sources as well as interacting with other RGI members regarding their financial needs. The ideal candidate is someone who will be able to help build RGI’s fundraising capacity and attain the necessary funding to serve those living with rare diseases.

You will work remotely and on your own schedule, and we ask for a minimum commitment of 5-10 hours a week. All RGI volunteers undergo a 90-day trial period in which certain members of the leadership team evaluate the suitability of the volunteer. This time period also provides the volunteer an opportunity to decide if the role is suitable for them.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with professionals across RGI to understand their respective funding needs
  • Research and identify public and private funding sources that match RGI’s needs
  • Retrieve and assemble the necessary background materials and information to construct
  • funding proposals
  • Work alongside the Director of Finance to finalize and submit funding proposals and grant
  • applications
  • Maintain grant application schedules and tracking systems
  • Work alongside the Director of Finance to collect, analyze, and report data on the
  • performance of programs to ensure compliance with the terms of funding agreements
  • Keep the finance team informed on the progress and status of funding proposals
  • Maintain records of existing and potential funding sources while vetting and updating
  • fundraising information as appropriate
  • Communicate with existing and potential funding sources and respond to ongoing requests
  • Review budget proposals with the Director of Finance and other relevant team leaders
  • Perform other related duties as requested

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., life sciences, public health, business, nonprofit
  • management, communications, marketing)
  • 4+ years of fundraising experience in a nonprofit, charity, or philanthropic organization
  • Demonstrated record of successfully soliciting and managing various sources of funding
  • Understands basic fundraising techniques and strategies for nonprofits
  • Knowledge of available grant opportunities in the healthcare, biotechnology, and/or life
  • science space is highly preferred
  • Able to assess an organization’s programs, goals, and needs through the lens available
  • Advanced research skills and the ability to identify relevant, actionable funding sources
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to ensure compliance with the terms and requirements of
  • funding sources
  • Highly organized with the ability to successfully prioritize multiple projects, track fundraising
  • data, and execute funding requirements
  • Able to manage rejection, overcome common objections, and incorporate feedback

  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to effectively collaboration across a broad
  • range of individuals
  • Self-directed, disciplined, and adaptable, with the ability to work independently in a virtual
  • environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
