Our Organization and Mission:

Indy Hunger Network (IHN) is a collaborative organization made up of representatives of leading anti-hunger organizations and corporations in the Greater Indianapolis area. By working together, we make the systems that feed the hungry more efficient and effective. IHN’s mission is to create a system that ensures anyone who is hungry can access the nutritious food they need.  Our focus is on improving access to food, improving the nutrition of the food supply, and increasing the sustainability of the hunger relief system in our area.

Community Compass:

Community Compass is a project developed in collaboration with the City of Indianapolis and Level Up Development. Community Compass is a free, multi-channel technology tool (available as an app, texting service, and website) that allows people to quickly find the nearest food pantry, meal site, or other food resources, as well as determine eligibility for federal nutrition programs, including SNAP, WIC, senior meal programs, and summer meals. The app launched in Marion County in February 2020, and Community Compass is expanding statewide in 2021. IHN is seeking volunteers to help collect, organize, and verify data about organizations that provide food assistance in Indiana.

Volunteer Position:

Early in 2021, IHN started collecting information on food pantries and hot meal sites across the state of Indiana. Volunteers are needed to assist in the completion and verification of this information. As a Community Compass Data Verification Volunteer, you will be reaching out via phone and email to organizations in the state of Indiana to verify details about their services, hours of operation, accessibility, requirements for receiving services, etc. Volunteers should be comfortable using Excel and email, as well as talking on the phone to a variety of different people. Volunteer hours can be completed either remotely or on-site at Indy Hunger Network, and scheduling is flexible.
