We are seeking unpaid volunteer docents who are enthusiastic about having climate conversations and interested in joining us in building a culture for action by motivating others to learn about climate arts and advocacy. This is a public-facing role and volunteers should have a friendly, inclusive, approachable, and professional demeanor as a Climate Museum ambassador and a readiness to engage the public.

The Climate Museum Pop-Up features the major new work Someday, all this by artist David Opdyke paired with an inviting climate action incubator, where visitors of all ages can engage with the artwork by participating in guided opportunities for reflection, dialogue, and action for better futures. We also host a robust slate of programs exploring the intersection of climate change with the arts, justice, science, human migration, philosophy, activism, comedy, and more.

Volunteer docents will have the opportunity to:

  • Clearly communicate with visitors about Someday, all this and guide them through the climate action incubator activities, encouraging climate dialogue, and helping to enrich visitors’ experiences.
  • Provide logistical support for public programs (guest speakers, workshops, panels, etc.) and special events that will be led by Museum staff, teaching artists, and outside experts.
  • Join the Visitor Liaison staff and high school interns as part of the docent team.
  • Volunteer for shifts within this timeframe: 1:00pm - 6:00pm, Wednesdays - Sundays through April 30th, with occasional later hours during public program events.

Applicants should possess the following qualifications:

● No previous climate experience is required.

● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

● Customer service orientation and readiness to lead tours/start conversations with/assist visitors.

● Interest in climate issues, particularly climate justice and climate action.

● Growth mindset.

● Fluent English is required; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.

● Submit online application and short answer responses via application link.

● Be available to volunteer on-site. If selected, the volunteer must provide proof that they have been fully vaccinated and have received boosters, in accordance with CDC and other applicable government guidelines, against the COVID-19 (or SARS-CoV-2) virus, subject to any accommodation or other exceptions required by law. In addition, and subject to changing public health conditions, masks will be required of both Museum team members and visitors at events that do not include food and drink, subject to any accommodation or other exceptions required by law.

Opportunities for volunteering at the Climate Museum Pop-up will be available throughout the duration of the show and applications accepted on a rolling basis.
