Histoury, a nonprofit that provides tours focused on local history and architectural heritage, is looking for volunteers (remote, part-time) to help research and coordinate our upcoming tours.

The position is research based, mainly identifying historic resources in a given community in order to develop thematic architectural tours. The volunteer will gain exposure to the heritage tourism industry and experience with historical research and interpretation.

Projects involve conducting research to ascertain important information about the buildings, including year of construction, modifications, and the significance of the architect, residents, and events associated with the building. These skills are used regularly in many disciplines of historic preservation and history. The volunteer will also become familiarized with the cultural landscape of regions throughout the northeast, particularly community development and regional architectural movements. The volunteer will also have the opportunity to interpret the architectural and historical significance of buildings for the tour scripts.

Other assignments include developing tour itinerary, taking into account many variables that go into planning successful educational tours; documenting historical images; and developing mixed media (e.g. booklets and slideshow videos) to be used during tours.

Candidates will ideally have an academic background in public history, historic preservation, or architectural history; those with backgrounds in other related fields will also be considered.

The volunteer will be required to fulfill 15 hours per week through the end of May. This role is unpaid, however, we can work to accommodate academic credit if necessary.
