    Retired Members of Local Community Needed to Volunteer with Neighbors Who are Blind

    Retired Members of Your Local Community Are Needed to Volunteer with Neighbors Who are Blind. If you live outside New Haven, that's fine too. Volunteers are needed throughout Connecticut to assist neighbors who are blind with reading their mail, friendly visiting, shopping, having coffee and doing errands together. All the things you are already doing, but just doing it with a buddy and brightening both your days. It just takes 10 minutes and 10 days to a new you!!

    Requirements to be a great volunteer include:

    • a desire to help others;

    • a pleasant demeanor;

    • a good reading/speaking voice;

    • average reading skills;

    • organizational or planning abilities;

    • a good driving record;

    • a clear criminal history;

    • two references

    • access to a car with proof of insurance;

    • a minimum of $50/100k liability and $5,000 of property damage coverage.
