Help seniors to stay connected with the community, from home!

The United Jewish Council of the East Side (UJCES) is a non-profit organization. For 50 years, UJCES has provided a wide range of human services and implemented community development programs on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. While the majority of programs are oriented to the needs of seniors, we also operate programs for families and children. Volunteers are essential to our mission as we serve the NYC community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our senior centers continue to support the community by providing remote services and activities.

DETAILS:

Virtual Activities Volunteers will support our senior centers by leading weekly virtual classes for clients. Volunteer responsibilities include developing and delivering engaging content for 45-minute class sessions.

We are looking for outgoing, creative volunteers with hobbies, interests, or skills that you can use toward leading new virtual classes. We will consider any ideas for classes such as art, culture, technology, recreation, etc.

This is a remote volunteer position. Internet access and proficiency using Zoom is required. Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, or other non-English languages is helpful but not required.

You can help create meaningful and exciting activities for UJCES's senior clients.

DAYS & TIMES:

Classes will be held weekly, on a weekday, and will be 45 minutes in length. Classes may be offered between 9:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., depending on availability in the current class schedule. Outside of the classes, it is expected that some additional volunteer time will be helpful for content development and class preparation.

TIME COMMITMENT:

We recommend at least 6 months of volunteering, and encourage longer terms of service.

HOW TO SIGN UP:

Join the UJCES team! Please complete an online application form at ujceastside.org/volunteer-nyc. In your application, please provide details on ideas for a new class that you would be interesting in leading. We are planning to start new classes in May or June 2021, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
