    Do you want to make a difference in your community and the lives of others? Volunteer! Alternative Horizons is always in need of volunteers to staff our 24/7 hotline. AH supports and empowers survivors of domestic violence. This volunteer opportunity is flexible to fit your schedule. Impactful work that can teach you real life skills or build on what you already know. Training and ongoing support provided.

    Must live in La Plata County, Durango or San Juan county Silverton area - Colorado.

    How to Apply

    Complete at least 16 to 20 hours of domestic violence advocacy training provided by Alternative Horizons Corporation (AHC). Must complete all aspects of training in order to provide services to survivors of domestic violence.

    Attend any mandatory Volunteer Advocate Meetings and/or one-on-one meetings with the Volunteer Coordinator & Advocate (VCA) to review client cases, debrief, discuss pertinent issues, ask questions, and meet continuing education expectations.

    Provide counseling, support, information and referral to survivors of domestic violence. This provision of service may be done through the 24/7/365 hotline, AHC office phone, and/or in-person in the AHC office, depending upon Volunteer Advocate availability and agreement between Volunteer Advocate and AHC staff. The greatest need is for Volunteer Advocate commitment to staffing the 24/7/365 hotline.

    After taking an on-call shift, contact the VCA or AH staff member at the AH office to inform them of any hotline calls you received. Be prompt, reliable, responsible, and professional while interacting with survivors of domestic violence who access AHC’s services.

    Consult the VCA with questions regarding policies, procedures, and protocols as needed.
