“When you choose to join us, you’re choosing more than just a job…. you’re choosing to make a difference”

Could you use your Information Technology skills to support others to be digitally included and to gain confidence in IT use?

This is initially a short-term project for a couple of hours per week (flexible around a volunteer’s availability) for about 6 - 8 weeks, with the possibility of extending if there is demand.

Better Lives Family Service supports people affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use within the family. No one sets out to have a problem with drugs or alcohol but sometimes things can escalate out of control. When this happens, it can have a long lasting impact on family life and relationships for everyone in the family, especially for children.

We support people to:

  • Strengthen relationships
  • Improve family life
  • Reduce the risk from parental drug or alcohol use
  • Make children and young people more resilient

We offer non-judgemental support from committed staff and treat each family and individual as unique, with their own strengths and needs. This is a partnership between Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, WDP and Humankind.

Please Note: We have Covid-19 risk management measures at our services. Please feel free to get in touch if you would like more information.

Details of the role:

The aim of this new, initially short-term (6-8 weeks), role is to support adults to gain crucial Information Technology skills and to grow in confidence to use technology. Activities could include:

  • Liaising with service users, volunteers and staff to identify areas of need and how these can be addressed through one-to-one support and activities
  • Helping service users and volunteers at a particular time each week to become familiar with IT functions such as: using the internet effectively; setting up and using an email account; using Microsoft Word or other programmes.
  • Tailoring support to each individual
  • Agreeing the number of sessions of support with each individual
  • Liaising with staff and service users to gain feedback about the service which helps inform decisions and support
  • Complying with all Humankind policies and procedures, including service and local Safeguarding Procedures, General Data Protection Requirements and Health & Safety

Personal Qualities:

We would love you to bring to this role:

  • A confident and friendly approach
  • Empathy and patience
  • Be respectful and non-judgemental
  • Good IT skills
  • An understanding of the importance of guidelines and procedures relating to key areas such as safeguarding and information governance
  • To be over 18
  • Willingness to undergo a DBS check if required for the role
  • Willing to attend and complete relevant training

What Volunteers can expect from us:

  • Supervision and support
  • Access to online and face to face training
  • To learn and practice new skills within a team work setting
  • To feel part of a team and the wider Humankind organisation
  • Reasonable travel expenses reimbursed with proof of journey

Our workplace values are:

  • Honest: we are open and realistic, building trusted relationships in which we challenge, collaborate and change.
  • Committed: we are passionate about being the best that we can be, and we do this by keeping people at the heart of everything that we do.
  • Inventive: we are ambitious, drawing together skills and resources to innovate and adapt in determined pursuit of our mission.

We are committed to fair chances for all and making sure everyone can access the help and support they need to realise their potential. By joining our teams of passionate individuals, you will be contributing to making this happen. You can really make a difference by believing in our service users and their ability to make positive changes when they don’t always believe in themselves.

If you feel that you would fit with our values & ethos, are passionate about supporting people, but maybe don’t feel you have the experience required, talk to us about your transferrable skills. For the right people, we can provide development to help you to realise your potential and career aspirations.

Please note that all communication regarding your application for this post will be sent to the email address you provide on your application form. We will contact shortlisted candidates by email to confirm the arrangements for interview. Please check your email inbox after the closing date for notification as you will not be notified by any other means. Please remember to check your junk folder.

Please be aware that due to recent changes in legislation we have updated our recruitment criteria for certain roles. A job offer may be subject to providing evidence of two mandatory COVID vaccines.
