Mission Statement: 

The Lunar Doula Collective seeks to provide emotional, physical, and informational support free of charge to those undergoing miscarriage, stillbirth, or pregnancy termination in Southeast Michigan. LDC strives to honor the reproductive justice framework by creating a nonjudgmental space in which sexual and reproductive health equity is essential for all human beings regardless of sexual, racial, and gender identities.

Job Description:

LDC is seeking a dedicated individual to serve on the board as an Accountability Director to help this young nonprofit organization further its mission of providing compassionate support to those experiencing pregnancy loss and termination procedures throughout southeast Michigan. In addition to general board member duties, responsibilities of the Accountability Director include:  

  • Responding to and investigating reports of misconduct in a timely, supportive, and professional manner
  • Acting as a compassionate resource for reportees to discuss misconduct concerns surrounding individuals within LDC’s Core Team, LDC’s Volunteer Cohort and/or individuals externally associated with the organization
  • Facilitating a nonjudgemental space in which individuals can easily report misconduct and can trust that their concerns are taken seriously
  • Preparing and presenting reports to the Board regarding misconduct concerns
  • Working with the rest of the Board to make decisions regarding misconduct concerns as quickly as is allowed by the investigation process
  • Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism when discussing misconduct reports and making decisions regarding restoration
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of misconduct reporting processes and working to ensure that future misconduct is prevented
  • Consider policy proposals from other LDC staff and Board members regarding misconduct reporting and ethics to facilitate the continuous improvement of LDC guidelines

Length of Term: 

General Board Members will serve for a two-year term from the effective date 


Time Commitment Requirement:

LDC’s current status as a newly-formed organization requires a working board committed to helping grow the organization. As such, board members will be asked to commit 10-15 hours monthly to their board duties, including monthly board meetings with an average of 2 hours per meeting, and will be available for calls with the Executive Director for a minimum of 1 hour per month. 


Qualifications: 

LDC Board Members must demonstrate passion for and commitment to LDC’s goals of promoting the Reproductive Justice Framework. Due to LDC’s work to support communities throughout southeast Michigan, a candidate with connections to Michigan is ideal. A dedicated candidate with experience in social work, counseling, social action and/or nonprofit organization and development is preferred. An ideal Accountability Director Candidate will have the following qualifications: 

  • Professional experience as a social worker or counselor with skills directly related to effectively handling misconduct reporting
  • A commitment to and understanding of guidelines outlined in the LDC Volunteer Handbook, specifically LDC’s requirements for Misconduct Reporting, Whistleblower Policies, and Code of Ethics
  • Excellent listening and communication skills, with an understanding of the sensitive nature of LDC’s work and a strong commitment to advocating for vulnerable populations
  • Experience with conflict resolution using the Restorative Justice approach
  • A passionate advocate for bodily autonomy and reproductive rights of all individuals, with knowledge of social and emotional needs of those experiencing pregnancy loss, including an understanding of and commitment to addressing barriers and health disparities that exist for those seeking reproductive health resources
