Saavi Services for the Blind is a vocational rehabilitation training center providing skills training in nonvisual techniques to people of all ages.
Whether a student is new to blindness or has received training in the past and would like to learn new skills, our goal is to provide skills training so our students may lead productive, independent lives. Our programs serve individuals of all ages, from children to seniors, all with the goal of providing confidence and skill-building opportunities through training and education.
How you’ll help us:
Saavi is in need of several volunteers to help with various transcription duties. Transcriptions allow our staff to access the information they need quickly, and help make our social media accounts more accessible. Our ideal volunteer can give 5 hours a week to:
Sometimes it is hard to believe in the effectiveness of nonvisual skills if you have never observed them in action. For this reason, we believe that role modeling is a key part of our training program. Thus, all employees and volunteers go through basic immersion training. This training allows staff to not only gain nonvisual skills but also to gain a deeper understanding of a positive philosophy of blindness.
