Direct Care Volunteer - Gentiva Hospice, Sevierville, TN

Location: Sevier and Blount Counties

Commitment: 3-8 hours bi-weekly/monthly

Reports to: Volunteer Coordinator

Join Gentiva Hospice in bringing comfort, dignity, and companionship to patients and families. As a Direct Care Volunteer, you'll be a vital part of our care team, offering presence, empathy, and practical support when it matters most.

Whether you're reading aloud to a patient, sharing stories, assisting with light household tasks, or giving a family caregiver a much-needed break, your time and compassion help create peace and connection during life's most meaningful moments.

We're looking for. . .

• Adults 18+,
• Compassionate, empathetic, and respectful people,
• Good listeners that value meaningful connection, and
• People with reliable transportation.

Requirements:

• Complete our internal application and provide two references,
• Undergo a background check, drug screening, TB test, and orientation,
• Participate in 12h of annual training and continuing education, and
• Commit to confidentiality and compliance with hospice regulations.

What you'll do:

• Provide companionship and emotional support to patients and families,
• Offer respite care so caregivers can rest and recharge,
• Make "tuck-in" calls to ensure patients have what they need before the weekend,
• Assist with small but meaningful tasks like writing letters, or light meal-prep and housework,
• Keep open communication with the Volunteer Coordinator about patient needs or changes, and
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold the compassionate standards of hospice care.
