New Leaders Council - Portland, OR chapter - is looking for its next class of Progressive Fellows!

This is a 6-month FREE leadership development program for progressives in the Portland, OR area.

Interested in joining a nationally-recognized progressive leadership program that will equip you with the skills to run for office, manage campaigns, launch businesses, and create nonprofits?

If so, apply to be a 2020 New Leaders Council fellow! NLC is the nation’s leading training program for a new generation of activists and thinkers, with nearly 8,000 alumni from 50 chapters across the country. Our fellows are union members, small business owners, nonprofit staff, teachers, policymakers, and everything in between. 

Our Portland chapter strives to reflect the wide range of folks within our Portland community by representing people from a variety of socio-economic levels, ethnicities, religions, etc. and people from outside traditional power structures. We’re looking for leaders and doers who want to advance progressive values here in Portland. 

What NLC looks for in an applicant 

NLC attracts the best and brightest rising-star leaders because of the premier quality of its curriculum, faculty, and volunteers. 

95 percent of NLC's faculty are volunteer, as are 100 percent of NLC local Chapter Directors. The vast majority of NLC's funding coming from small-dollar, grassroots supporters. All of these groups invest in our Fellows because NLC believes in each Fellow's potential. Therefore, an applicant should demonstrate their future promise by showing:

  1. Commitment to progressive values 
  2. Emerging in their career and generally between the ages of 25 and 40 
  3. Ability to benefit from NLC 
  4. Commitment to the local community and to building the NLC presence locally
  5. Constructive team orientation and positive character
  6. High leadership potential, as evidenced by outsized early success
  7. Contributes diverse and unique perspectives to the class 
  8. Entrepreneurial spirit and ambition to lead

Fellows will meet on the following weekends for the 2021 Institute:

  • January 30 and 31, 2021
  • February 27 and 28, 2021
  • March 27 and 28, 2021
  • May 1 and 2, 2021
  • June 5 and 6, 2021
  • June 19 and 20, 2021
