About CTVN

Community TV Network (CTVN) empowers youth from Chicago’s under-resourced and underrepresented communities to tell their stories through digital video production. For more information, visit ctvnetwork.org or contact the CTVN Executive Board.

CTVN Associate Board

The purpose of the CTVN Associate Board is to:

  1. provide operational and strategic support to CTVN and its Executive Board of Directors,
  2. bolster CTVN’s fundraising and development to increase CTVN’s service capacity, and
  3. plan, organize and promote social activities and events that allow young professionals to share ideas, develop networks, and increase awareness of CTVN’s work.

Member Benefits

Giving Back: The Associate Board is a great way for members to get involved in their community and contribute to an amazing organization.

Professional Development and Networking: Associate Board Members will learn new skills, meet other members with a diverse set of backgrounds and talents, and build a strong record of community leadership that they can use for resumes and other future opportunities.

Personal Networking and Fun: Associate Board Members will likely make friends and meet fun and interesting people who share their passion for civic engagement and volunteerism.

Associate Board Member Expectations

Attendance

Members will be expected to attend as many regular meetings as possible, with a minimum of 75% attendance rate. Initially, the Associate Board will meet every two months, as scheduled by the Meetings Chair. The Associate Board may call additional meetings if it wishes, in particular to prepare for large events or other occurrences.

At minimum, CTVN asks its Associate Board members to commit to serving for at least one year, but CTVN hopes for very long-term relationships with its Associate Board members.

Contributions

Associate Board Members will be expected to contribute/raise $500 in their first year, and $1,000 in each subsequent year.

This contribution can come from (1) fundraising in the form of event ticket sales, etc.; (2) direct contributions from the member or their social contacts; or (3) limited in-kind donations of goods/services (only certain donations of goods/service may be counted - members should reach out to their Executive Board liaison to obtain pre-approval).

Associate Board Leadership

There will be various Associate Board leadership opportunities. The initial positions are President & Executive Board Liaison, Events Chair, Membership Chair, and Meetings Chair.

President & Executive Board Liaison: The President is the leader of the Associate Board - they will make all final decisions that do not require input from the Executive Board. Additionally, the President will serve as the main liaison to the Executive Board.

Events Chair: The Events Chair will be responsible for all of the Associate Board’s events. The Events Chair is encouraged to delegate duties (or even leadership of entire events) to other members, but the Events Chair is ultimately responsible for ensuring that these tasks are completed and reporting their progress.

Membership Chair: The Membership Chair is responsible for keeping track of all Associate Board members, their contributions, their start/end dates, and any other relevant member records. They are also, effectively, the “HR Manager” of the Associate Board, serving as the initial contact for questions, concerns, etc.

Meetings Chair: The Meetings Chair is responsible for taking meeting minutes and notes, and distributing those notes to all members. The Meetings Chair is also responsible for scheduling meetings, organizing meeting locations and logistics, and sending meeting notices and reminders to all members.
