Vote-By-Mail Researcher

Mailin2020.org provides nationwide vote-by-mail instructions for each state’s rules, requirements, and mail-in applications. The site and its team are nonpartisan with its key purpose to make the process of voting safe in November 2020. To help, the site contains steps for each state’s voting process, FAQs, and a means to sign up for reminders of key dates and actions. Mailin2020.org gives all voters access to actionable voting information for the November 2020 General Election.

Initial research and development is in place; however, as Election Day approaches, states may change their laws, procedures, and requirements. For example, California has implemented automatic mail-in ballots for all registered voters for the November election.

To ensure continued accuracy of Mailin2020.org, the project is seeking an additional researcher who can keep on top of the breaking news for each state and make sure the site remains accurate. All voters come under the umbrella of Mailin2020's goal to make voting easier, safer and less complicated.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the researcher include:

  • For each state, the researcher will search the web for any news relating to vote by mail changes. For example, determine if there are additional steps to apply for a mail-in ballot or new deadlines. These are listed and researched. Future web pages on the site may include these as news updates.
  • The researcher exercises the website to ensure that the links and information are correct. Where inaccuracies exist, identify the areas and suggest revisions. Any updates based on the news for the state are included on the site.
  • The site expects comments and suggestions. The researcher will review these and make recommendations to the project manager based on their assessment of the comments.
  • Changes to the user interface and wording of information are also welcomed.

Skills& Equipment

The researcher should have an active interest in how voting is carried out in a fair and consistent manner. The candidate must also have experience in organizing user information and ideally working with state guidelines. A basic understanding of WordPress (posts, pages) is helpful.

Candidate must have access to a computer with web access. Experience editing posts and pages is desirable but not required.
