Volunteer Role: Donation Coordinator Assistant/Development Support

The Lynn Shelter Association believes every person deserves a place to call home. Our mission is to provide a safe environment for each individual to define and pursue their goals for independence and self-sufficiency. We work alongside individuals and families to create a supportive environment- by listening and building relationships- empowering them to define and pursue their goals. We provide shelter, supportive services, housing solutions and access to a continuum of community supports to more than 1,000 individuals and families at risk for and experiencing homelessness each year.

As a non-profit organization, we rely on the generosity of donations of all sorts to support the needs of homeless individuals and families in shelter for items such as winter jackets, seasonal clothing, toiletries, toys, and household goods. We are currently seeking motivated volunteers to assist in the ongoing organization of these donations.

Position Summary: The primary duties for this position are assisting with the management of donations across shelter programs. Under the general supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator, this volunteer role will include sorting incoming donations by type, organization of family shelter centralized donation closet, general upkeep of donation closets at each family shelter site to ensure most needed items are stocked, and general tracking of donated items.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist with the sorting and tracking of donations of clothing, toys, toiletries and other assorted items
  • Helping to organize and clean centralized donation location
  • Assist with keeping donation closets at each family shelter site neat and stocked with most needed items
  • Assist with tracking incoming donations and inventory
  • Assist in appropriately thanking donors for donations as needed
  • Communicate with shelter staff and volunteer coordinator as needed.
  • Work in partnership with and receive support from our shelter staff and volunteer coordinator.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Able to pass a CORI check.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs
