Conversation Partners for Medical Spanish - Fully Remote

The Boston Medical Spanish Center is seeking volunteers to provide fully remote, one-on-one and small group conversation opportunities to students in our medical Spanish courses. Student proficiency levels range from beginners to native speakers working on improving their medical Spanish vocabulary. This position provides individuals with the opportunity to help increase understanding between providers and Spanish-speaking patients, and to improve the quality of care these patients receive. 

The goal of these conversations is to provide medical Spanish students with opportunities to practice the medical Spanish skills learned within the classroom in a low-stress and realistic setting. This volunteer position requires a commitment of 1-2 hours per week, and is an unpaid position. 

Volunteer conversation partners would receive training and work with experienced medical Spanish instructors. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining experience in teaching and medical interpreting.

No previous teaching experience is required - just a desire to help underserved immigrant and refugee populations.

The ideal volunteer will possess the following qualities:

· Commit to 1-2 regular hours per week

· English and Spanish Fluency

· Strong oral and written communication skills

· A positive, supportive, professional demeanor
