Rainbow Labs Overview:

Rainbow Labs is a nonprofit with a mission to create a safe and supportive environment where Queer and Gender Non-Conforming Youth (QGNC) can explore pathways to purposeful lives. We’re launching a new kind of youth mentoring program for QGNC youth by QGNC youth. Youth aged 13-17 have access to weekly individual and group mentoring activities. Activities are conducted by youth development professionals and mentors both virtually and in person.

In partnership with schools and after school programs cross Los Angeles, Rainbow Labs will offer a free mentoring program called “One Bold Summer” for LGBTQ+ youth aged 13-17. Mentors will start June 12th with a two day mentoring training and will mentor LGBTQ+ youth till August 17th. Mentors will be expected to volunteer 5-6 hours per week and will volunteer from home (virtual mentoring.) There will be 50 total LGBTQ+ youth partnered with 10 LGBTQ+ mentors. Youth and mentors will go through group mentoring actiivites faciliated by a content expert. Mentors and youth will also have the opportunity for group reflection and one-on-one mentoring.

Position Description:

Mentors are an essential member of our team for this summer. Mentors will be in a team of (2) supporting 10 LGBTQ+ youth throughout the summer. Mentors will also offer office hours/informal time where youth have an option to meet one-on-one outside of our weekly scheduled programming. All mentoring will happen virtually. Mentors will be supported by the Rainbow Labs program design team and three staff over the summer.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Be the main point of contact with their youth
  • Support their youth 5-6 hours a week in group sessions and one-on-ones
  • Refer youth to any additional services to the Rainbow Labs team

Qualifications:

  • Passionate commitment to Rainbow Labs mission and vision
  • Member of the LGBTQ+ community
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • High degree of initiative and spirit of service
  • Commitment to 9 weeks of programming (5-6 hours per week) & a 2 day training
  • Minimum age to apply is 21
  • Must be located in Los Angeles County
